Youth Job Connection

Employment Ontario’s Youth Job Connection (YJC) program offers paid pre-employment training and job placements to youth across Ontario. Our role at Employment Services Elgin is to help local youth find and retain suitable jobs through a combination of pre-employment training, mentorship, and job placements.

This program is funded by the government of Ontario and, therefore, provided to job seekers and employers for free.

PROGRAM BENEFITS YOUTH

ELIGIBILITY AND SUITABILITY YOUTH
In order to be eligible for this program, youth must be:

  • 15-29 years old at time of registration
  • A resident of Ontario
  • Unemployed
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Not participating in full-time training or education

EMPLOYERS

In order to be eligible for this program, employers must:

  • Be licensed to operate in Ontario
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, and all applicable federal and provincial human rights legislation, regulations, and any other relevant standards
  • Maintain appropriate WSIB or alternate workplace safety insurance coverage
  • Have adequate third party general liability insurance, as advised by its insurance broker
  • Provide the job placement in Ontario
  • Express an intention to hire the participant after the placement ends
  • Place trainees/employees on company payroll and provide the same employment terms, conditions and benefits as for all regular employees
  • Not be a federal, provincial or municipal government agency
  • Not be a YJC service provider
  • Not be currently receiving other government funds for the same job placement
  • Not use a placement services to displace existing staff, or replace staff who have been laid-off
  • Not hire immediate family members (e.g. parents, spouse or child)
